February 5, 2008 -- Forget the sensible shoes - there's pure sexual heeling in a sleek pair of stilettos.

In a recent study of 66 women, those who held their foot at a 15-degree angle to the ground - the equivalent of a 2-inch heel - were in the best position to strengthen and contract their pelvic muscles.

And that, ladies, means better sex.

After pregnancy and childbirth and as women get older, the pelvic floor muscles weaken, says lead researcher Dr. Maria Cerruto, a urologist at Italy's University of Verona, whose study will appear in the journal European Urology. The muscles also provide support to the bladder, bowels and uterus. Though certain exercises can help, not many women ever bother.

Look no further than the closet.

"Women often have difficulty in carrying out the right exercises for the pelvic zone, and wearing heels could be the solution," Cerruto told the BBC.

Manolo Blahnik, whose high-heeled shoes were a fetish of Sarah Jessica Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw, in the TV series "Sex and the City," rejoiced at the news.

"I've been hounded for years about how bad it is for posture," he told reporters. "When you put on a high heel, it makes life more exciting."
